In Chile Its not difficult to find in your way many kinds of “alternative therapies”.
We are a country that believes in natural medicine and in curing our diseases with natural products. We consume alternative products all the time and is something that is mostly very incorporated in all families from little things like: “Mom I feel lots of pain in my belly, and she will reply to you ..”Ohh drink some oregano is very good anti-inflammatory” and things like that.
Our culture also goes to the point where there are people that only cure themselves with this kind of medicine, different therapies based on herbal plants, essential oils, water, sea salt and son on. The objective of curing our bodies and souls by letting things go, live the present and makes you so some kind of introspection or a personal analysis to find the problem, treat it by finding balance and inner peace. The cure is in yourself and in your relationships with the others and your world around.
After living in other countries and reading from other cultures traditions I realize this is not only a Chilean or an American thing, which makes it much more powerful and of course in other continents like Asia and many other cultures have their own secrets that have been silenced by the pharmacy and medicine industry like our natives cultures were silenced by the Catholic religion that forbids this pagan acts or cultures.
The important thing is that many of this therapeutical rites were transmitted orally inside the families and communities and now it's like a big fusion of knowledge that comes from all over the world and people have incorporated this us a mythical tradition but that this day make a lot of sense with the new trends on nutrition and wellness where these practices are starting to be recognized but most part of the society.
So if you are traveling around, trying to find a path to healing and will find plenty of alternatives, from yoga and the typical spa, meditation, people with knowledge of plants, massages, acupuncture, iridologist and many other ways to cure with natural and no invasive process.
Yesterday, I went to a Temazcal ( commonly known us sweatlodge) ceremony, this is my third one and it was the most difficult one I had ever experienced, because of the heat and the long time I stay inside the Tipi ( the place where the healing ceremony takes place).
For those that have never experienced this, a Temazcal is a ceremony that comes from North America, Aztecas culture, central American and some says that our natives ” Mapuches” had a similar practice. Volcanic rocks are heated in a fireplace that is outside the tipi and after a few hours when the rocks are ready you can go into this round place made of mud, rocks, and wood. The tipi represents the uterus, the mother, the feminine energy its a ceremony to go back to your origins a connection with your past, your family by recognizing them and is a place where the life begins.
The ceremony has different steps that you follow and is guided by someone with experience in Temazcal, this person talks, sings and explain you the ceremony so you can connect with your own work and meditation, inspired in letting things go, to start again from the uterus, and clean your body of diseases.
The heat inside the tipi goes high every time the door open and the master of ceremony asks for more volcanic stones to enter inside the place. After that the door is closed again to start a new cycle of singing, talking, breathing and focus on your process of healing.
Temazcal is definitely a worth experience, what I think about this therapies is that they are honest, even if you don´t feel comfortable its also part of your own healing process. These things tell a lot about your own self, putting yourself into this experience requires there takes an understanding for you to be able to open your conscious and awareness so you can experience from who you truly are and let this knowledge teach you what it has too and clean you if whatever you want to let go.
For me, this experience has been remarkable in a way difficult but super interesting. I felt lots of pain in my back and also because I knew exactly what all that pain mean to me. I start to think that I wanted to let it go, let all the pain go, but I still feel it very strong, so I started to feel lots of anger. After that, the heat was higher and my anger too for one second I could forget it and that second was what I need it to understand the pain and finally let it all go.
Let me know if you need more information about this event in Chile. I will be happy to help!
